Like a mighty tidal wave
Or the rising of volcanic fire
Humanity does strangely behave
By the mystery called, "desire"...

The rags clothing every falsehood
Pulling humanity into the mire
Would veil Deity if it could
Through the thing called "desire"...

In ancient times and today
Innocent lives men did require
Adding cadavers to their array
Quenching the thirst of "desire"...

Dictators rise and quickly fall
Sons betray fathers for hire
Brave men die against the wall
To satisfy their deepest desire...

God did from eternity behold
His strength could not tire
To reshape humanity for the fold
Making manifest an infinite desire...

So the Lord said to Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen?  If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door.  And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it."
Genesis 4:6-7
